The Wake County John H. Baker, Jr., Public Safety Center located at 330 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27601, is a next-door neighbor to the Wake County Courthouse. It houses one of the Sheriff’s detention centers, the County Emergency Medical Services Offices, the Fire/Rescue, the City-County Bureau of Identification and the Wake County Sheriff’s Business and Detention Office.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office Detention Division manages three detention facilities that house adult detainees in Wake County. Both the Wake County Detention Annex and the Wake County Detention Center are located on Hammond Road, while the third facility is located at the John H. Baker, Jr., Public Safety Center at 330 South Salisbury Street in downtown Raleigh. Together, the three County facilities have a total capacity of 1,312 beds for detainees. About 400 staff members provide health care, security, and supervision services for the detainee population. Visitation is limited to one visit for 45 minutes every other week except for the detainee’s attorney.

The Wake County Courthouse Main Campus is located at 335 S. Salisbury St., Raleigh, NC 27601. Parking for the facility is in a 9-story complex at 216 W. Cabarrus St., on the corners of Davie, McDowell, and Cabarrus streets.
The Civil Division of the Wake County Courthouse Clerk’s office Superior Court handles matters involving lawsuits over $10,000, and Small Claims matters under $5,000. The Wake County Courthouse Civil section takes care of all Domestic Relations lawsuits including child support, domestic violence, custody, equitable distribution of property, and alimony.
On the criminal side, the Superior Court of Wake County has original jurisdiction in all felony cases and in some misdemeanor cases. Most misdemeanors are tried first in the District Court, from which a jury may appeal a conviction to the Superior Court for trial de novo. Both criminal and civil cases in superior court are tried before a twelve-person jury.
